EQUIPMENT HIRE - Expert Advice

When choosing the ideal equipment for you, the first thing you have to do is decide the style of skiing or riding that you would like to be doing.

For the skier/rider who wants to be in the trees all day, then a minimum of an 80% Powder ski would be ideal.

A skier/rider who prefers all round terrain and conditions, a 70% Powder ski would be ideal.

For those skiers who just love going fast on the groomed for most of the day - Groomed skis would be the best option.

Ski Length

The next consideration is ski length, if you already know what length you prefer then go with that.

If you are unsure, then a good rule is to measure your height and then follow these steps:

  • Subtract 10cm if you are an intermediate skier and 5cm if you are an advanced skier.
  • If you prefer slower then average speeds subtract 5cm, if you prefer faster than average skiing, add 5cm.
  • If you are a heavier skier, add 5cm.
  • If you are going to be in the powder most of the time, add 5cm.

Snowboard Length

Many snowboarders will already know what length they require, but you can also use the following to help with you decision:

  • If you are a beginner, then the board should be as tall as your chin.
  • If you are intermediate or advanced, then the board should be as tall as your nose.

Note: for park riding you would normally use a slightly shorter board, and for powder riding you would normally use a slightly longer board.

These tips will help you get on the perfect equipment from day one and don't forget, you can change your equipment at any time.
